Let’s walk through what the First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) is, who qualifies in 2025, and how to check your eligibility today.
🏡 What Is the First Home Owner Grant in WA?
The First Home Owner Grant is a $10,000 payment from the WA Government to help first-time buyers build or buy a brand-new home.
It’s designed to make buying your first property more affordable, especially for young families, couples, and individuals who want to stop renting and start building equity.
You don’t have to pay it back, and it can be used as part of your deposit or to help with upfront building costs.

To receive the $10,000 FHOG in Western Australia, you must meet the following criteria:

📍 Example: First Home Buyer in Yanchep
We recently worked with a young couple in Capricorn Beach Estate.
They had been renting for years and didn’t think they could qualify for anything. But after filling out our quick online form, we discovered:
They were both Australian citizens
Neither had owned property before
Their combined income was within range
Their house and land package was valued at $515,000
They received $10,000 from the FHOG, plus stamp duty waived on the land. That $10k covered their fencing, window treatments, and a split system A/C.

💬 Common FHOG Questions
❓ What if I’m buying with my partner and they’ve owned before?
If either applicant has owned property in Australia, you won’t qualify as a couple. You may want to consider applying solo (seek advice).
❓ Can I use the FHOG toward my deposit?
Yes. Most banks will accept the $10,000 grant as part of your deposit contribution.
❓ Do I get the money directly?
No. The grant is usually paid to your lender during the construction process to reduce your loan.
